Laser Therapy

Over the past several decades, great strides have been made in terms of the treatment options and technologies available for the care of companion animals. One such advancement has been the use of the therapeutic laser for pain management and to treat a wide variety of medical conditions. At University West Pet Clinic, we pride ourselves at staying abreast of the most cutting edge veterinary treatments available, and we are happy to offer this innovative technology as an added choice to help our clients manage the ongoing health of their cherished companions.

What is laser therapy?

Laser therapy is a painless, non-invasive, drug-free treatment modality that has been proven to be highly effective in reducing pain, improving mobility and speeding healing following injury or surgery. The process involves the use of a small handheld device that emits a high intensity beam of light, or laser, which penetrates the skin and targets the area of the body in question. Laser therapy doesn’t hurt at all. In fact, some pets find the process so relaxing, they’ve even been known to take a nap during a session!

What can laser therapy be used to treat?

We’re finding new ways to use the therapeutic laser almost on a daily basis. Currently, we are able to leverage this cutting edge technology to treat and manage any of the following:

  • Arthritis
  • Degenerative Joint Disease
  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Acute and Chronic Pain
  • Inflammation
  • Strains and Sprains
  • Infections
  • Allergies
  • Post-Surgical Healing / Pain Relief
  • Tendonitis
  • Injury Rehabilitation
  • Much More…

How long will my pet’s laser treatments last?

The number and length of laser therapy treatments your pet will require will ultimately depend on the condition that is being treated, as well as other factors that are unique to your particular pet. While results may be evident after just one session, our experienced doctors will advise you on just how many your pet will need to achieve optimum results.

If your pet suffers from any of the above afflictions, or just appears to be experiencing pain or discomfort, why not see if laser therapy might help them live a more comfortable life? Call today to find out more.
