For most of us, our pets are a part of our family, and bringing a family member in for surgery – regardless of whether they happen to have two legs or four – can be a stressful time filled with uncertainty. You want to be sure that your loved one will be well cared for and kept as safe and comfortable as possible. At University West, we understand the questions and feelings of concern you have, and we want to set your mind at ease once and for all. When it comes to surgical care, your pet will be in excellent hands with our team!

Our experienced doctors are skilled at performing a wide variety of pet surgeries, both routine and complex, using the most up to date equipment and techniques, and always adhering to the strictest standards of care. We work tirelessly to make sure that each surgery performed in our hospital is as positive and stress-free an experience as possible for everyone – especially your four-legged friend. All surgical patients are carefully screened prior to any procedure to make sure they are healthy enough to undergo surgery. This is especially important for pets that are older or that suffer from existing health conditions. We never want to place our patients at unnecessary risk.

Once cleared for surgery, we will develop a customized pain management plan, using only the safest anesthetic products available. The goal is to create a plan that will keep your pet as comfortable as possible while also minimizing risk. When it comes time for the procedure to begin, your pet will be prepped for surgery, and our technicians will begin administering pain control, all the while closely monitoring their vital signs to ensure their wellbeing at all times.

Our doctors will begin the surgery and work diligently to manage the process in the most effective and efficient manner possible. Our surgical suite is outfitted with the most up to date technology and equipment, and our surgical team of technicians and assistants will remain on hand to assist with surgery and monitor your pet at all times – before, during and after the procedure. When surgery is complete, we will relocate your companion to our quiet recovery area.

In most cases, surgical patients are able to return home the very same day as their procedure. A member of our team will contact you to let you know when you will be able to retrieve your pet, depending on what surgery was performed and how your pet is recovering. When you do arrive to pick up your pet, we’ll spend some time explaining any post-operative care instructions we may have, including a plan for pain control to help your pet recover as comfortably as possible at home.

Should any questions or concerns arise about your pet once you’ve returned home, please do not hesitate to contact us right away. No question is too small or unimportant when it comes to the care and wellbeing of your cherished companion.

If your pet needs surgery, there’s no need to worry. The team at University West Pet Clinic is here to help! We’ll have your furry friend fixed up and on the road to a full and speedy recovery in no time!
