The University West Pet Clinic Story
In 1976, Dr. Cyrus Starch and Dr. James Yoder opened the doors to their second animal hospital in the greater Des Moines area. University West Pet Clinic in Clive, a sister clinic to Starch Pet Hospital, has been a staple of the community ever since, providing exceptional veterinary care and outstanding client service.
In 1992, Dr. Starch and Dr. Yoder sold both practices to Dr. Brian Martz and Dr. Michael Henning. Since the hospital changed hands, we’ve endeavored to uphold the stellar reputation that Dr. Starch and Dr. Yoder worked so hard to establish, and to continue the valuable relationships they built with the people and pets of the area.

Dr Lisa (Takes) is the best. She has been treating our 4 legged family members for years 20+. Thorough, strait forward, knowledgeable. She's kind and compassionate, especially with the humans when outcomes are not the best. We Love her. We see her at whichever clinic she may be at, Starch or University West. Highly recommend Dr Takes, her clinics and staff.

I have been visiting this vet clinic for years and they are the best. I will never go anywhere else. The staff is great. The prices are very reasonable. And although my cats never like going to the vet (what cat does really??😂) the staff always makes them as comfortable as possible and is very knowledgeable and informative about my pets health.

When people say you get what you pay for, it is true. After 3 vet clinics in 6 yrs, I finally tried this place. Wanted somewhere close to home. I was not disappointed! Do I pay a little more? Absolutely. Is it worth it? 💯 The staff is amazing. Everyone really listens. I feel heard for the 1st time in years. Can't say enough nice things. Love this place!

Yesterday was a tough day. My elderly mom was not ready to say goodbye to her little dog that I gave her after my dad died several years ago, but the poor dog was definitely at the point where euthanasia was the humane and ethical decision.
